Poppy Line Visit

On the 17th November, Phoenix Class (Foulsham Primary School) visited The Poppy Line Railway Station in Holt for an evacuee's Christmas party.

On arrival we all counted back from 10 - 0 where we found ourselves transported back to 1941. We were ushered into the station and experienced a very loud and scary air raid. We had to take shelter, crouching on the ground in total blackness with the sound of bombs dropping and exploding all around us. To help us recover from this event, we were provided with a mug of hot chocolate and a biscuit, while we gathered our breath. We then set about a number of jobs including making our own sandwiches from rationed food items - including spam! Our other jobs involved polishing coins, making soap, decorating small cakes (with icing made from parsnip mash - yes really!) and stirring up the Christmas pudding.

After enjoying our self-made sandwiches we got ready for the party which was organised by the United States air-force, topped off by a visit from Father Christmas himself.

A thoroughly enjoyable and memorable day!
