Role: Behaviour & Safeguarding, inc Child Protection
I am a graphic/web designer with nearly 30 years of media industry experience. I started my career as a freelance magazine designer working in London on titles such as Country Homes & Interiors and Good Housekeeping. Later I was employed by Associated Newspapers as the London Evening Standard Magazine Studio Manager. As a senior manager, my main responsibility was to manage the team who produced the weekly ES & Hot Tickets magazines. This challenging and time-pressured role required me to manage the process from editorial through to press, ensuring the magazines were delivered on-time and on-budget. As part of the larger newspaper group, I also sat on a steering committee, whose responsibilities included setting budgets, developing policy, recruitment and training.
In 1999, with my young family, I made a move to Norwich, where I took on the role of Production Director for a successful, creative design and marketing agency. Being a relatively small company, my responsibilities in this role were very diverse. As well as managing the creative and production staff, I was also responsible for recruitment, new business development, equipment purchase, IT support and elements of financial management. In addition, the role was very much client-facing and I was able to develop excellent working relationships with my contacts in many local businesses, including Adnams and Aviva.
After five years as Production Director, in 2004 I took a year out and moved with my family to Kos in Greece to set-up and run a small café. We integrated ourselves into the Greek community and created a popular small business for both locals and tourists alike. As well as being a new challenge, this was a superb life experience for us all.
On returning to Norwich in 2005, I took up my previous role as Production Director and began running most aspects of the business. In addition to this role, in 2011, I became a foster carer, working with the Local Authority and various agencies on a regular basis regarding the wellbeing and education of Looked After Children.
Since 2015, I have been running my own creative agency based just outside Reepham, providing a full range of design, web and marketing services, to businesses throughout the UK, from all market sectors. More recently I have taken on the role of parent governor at Reepham High School and College and hope to make a valuable contribution to the school, as both a parent and foster carer.
