Behaviour & Rewards
Rewarding pupils for effort, achievement and attendance is fundamental to the ethos of our school
The school’s rewards system is designed to be fair and transparent as well as allowing pupils to be recognised for their outstanding achievement. Communication between staff, pupils and parents is frequent, effective, efficient and consistent. Sanctions are fair and implemented fairly.
There is considerable evidence to suggest that the giving of praise is one of the most effective ways of motivating children. Probably the most important form of praise is the praise given in a lesson by all staff. Regular comments are essential in encouraging pupils to participate and to motivate them to want to do better. It has been suggested that every pupil should receive five pieces of praise in every lesson. This is a tough target, but one that members of staff aspire to.
Alongside this informal recognition of effort, progress and achievement, RHSC staff implement the following formal rewards structure.
LESSON TIME AWARDS

It is anticipated that teachers give on average 1 – 3 merits per lesson and endeavour to use merits with all year groups.

Pupils who achieve a Head of Year Merit in a term will be entered in a termly draw.
