At Reepham High School & College we work to try and make what we do as relevant as possible to the world of work and to provide an effective and inspiring careers programme for all pupils.

We are fully committed to ensuring that all of our pupils acquire the skills, knowledge, attitude and understanding to manage their learning and careers aspirations and to work towards them becoming an independent and productive adult who can achieve their full potential.

The Careers Adviser at Reepham High School is: Mrs Edgill. eedgill@reephamhigh.org.uk Mrs Edgill is a qualified at Level 6 in Careers Guidance and Development and is available to pupils to receive impartial careers advice and guidance in regards to careers, or post-16 options.

The Careers Leader is Mr Edgar, aedgar@reephamhigh.org.uk

Careers Education is delivered through ‘Careers Impact Days’, extra-curricular enterprise activities, in tutor time and through PSHEE lessons where pupils complete a range of careers focused learning activities to help them make excellent choices.

Careers Days, Fairs, Parents’ Information Evenings and visiting speakers ensure our pupils are fully informed and supported with decisions about their future pathways and the range of options available to them at key transition points.

We believe in providing encounter opportunities to our pupils and would welcome support from employers to achieve this.  If you are an employer who would like to help us support our pupils with any of the above please get in touch with Mrs Edgill eedgill@reephamhigh.org.uk

Year 10 Work Experience gives pupils the opportunity to observe the workplace, undertaking tasks (under supervisions), improve confidence and learn key skills for the future. Further information on Work Experience is available here: https://www.reephamhigh.com/parents-carers/work-experience/

Every student in Year 8 undertakes a day of ‘work experience’ as a trainee student receptionist working with our visitors and supporting front-line staff.

Reepham High School and College works in partnership with the County Enterprise Coordinator, www.newanglia.co.uk to ensure the Gatsby Benchmarks are delivered in school and that careers outcomes are improved for all young people.

In addition Reepham High School and College has access to Unifrog https://www.unifrog.org/student/home and Help You Choose https://helpyouchoose.org/content/ platforms that enables pupils to explore their career pathways, develop their own CV and research local post-16 courses and jobs.

Pupils progress from Reepham High School to a range of destinations.  We seek to ensure that pupils have high aspirations, and that guidance is impartial and tailored to individual needs.  We seek to provide parents/carers with the knowledge of the choices available to their children. Pathways Post-16 include Further Education at College, specialist provision or into apprenticeship.

The Gatsby Benchmarks

Central to the Government’s Careers Strategy are the ‘Gatsby Benchmarks’. In 2013, The Gatsby Foundation commissioned Sir John Holman to investigate what good career guidance in England should look like.  This resulted in the creation of 8 Benchmarks for schools to work towards, in order to plan and deliver an effective Careers Programme.  These benchmarks have been widely adopted as an indication of quality careers guidance and schools have a statutory duty to meet them.

The eight Gatsby Benchmarks are:

  1. A Stable Careers Programme
  2. Learning from career and labour market information
  3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
  4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
  5. Encounters with employers and employees
  6. Experience of workplaces
  7. Encounters with further and higher education
  8. Personal careers guidance from a qualified adviser

Careers Education, Advice, Education and Guidance is a statutory responsibility of all schools. The latest Government Careers Strategy: available here >>

Our Aim

Pupils are entitled to Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) which meets professional standards of practice and is both personalised and impartial. It is integrated into pupils’ experience of the whole curriculum and based on a partnership with pupils and their parents or carers. The programme is structured to meet the Gatsby Benchmarks of good Careers education, raise aspirations, challenge stereotyping and promote equality and diversity.

The careers programme is designed to meet the needs of the pupils at Reepham High School to ensure progression through activities that are appropriate to pupils’ stages of career learning, planning and development.  The policy and programme can be viewed here >>

If you would like to share your career journey and experiences please get in touch with Mrs Edgill – eedgill@reephamhigh.org.uk
